ABOUT THE CHAIRMAN

CHAIRMAN goodIn a society where leadership is the bane, Hon. Husitode Moses Dosu prides himself as an energetic leader who is committed to righting historic wrongs in Badagry as well as in Nigeria and Africa as a whole. The Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Husitode Moses Dosu is a leader who rules by the consent of the people; and in turn enjoys their goodwill. Elected and sworn in as the Chairman of Badagry Local Government on 30th October, 2008, Hon. Husitode Moses Dosu has completed a number of developmental works in every sector of communal life. Prominent among these are health, education, poverty alleviation, environmental sanitation and beautification, reviving the tourism potentials in Badagry and a host of others.

Born into the Husitode family of Husitode of Singbomeh Compound on March 26th, 1959 in Badagry, Hon. Husitode Moses prides himself as man born with blue blood because the Husitode family represents one of the five Ruling Houses in Ajara Vetho. The Husitode family is one of the descendants of Ajavo, the autochtonous settler at Ajara Vetho.

Early in life, Hon. Husitode Moses had shown traits of strong leadership. He did not permit ‘older boys’ to bully him and at the same time, he demonstrated huge courage and exhibited justice. He did not like to cheat people and he always wanted to help people if he had the opportunity.

Young Husitode Moses Dosu had the opportunity of having western education. His educational pursuit started at Local Authority Primary School, Ajara – Iluda between 1969 and 1974. At Ajara Iluda, he was well known by the teachers for his unrepentant courage to stand up for truth and justice.

After completing his First School Leaving Certificate, Husitode Moses Dosu’s parents could not afford to send him to secondary school. They wanted him to learn a vocation. Moses Dosu was however resolute because he had a vision. Instead of learning a vocation, he decided to take up employment as a contract staff with Associated Breweries of Nigeria Limited. With dedication and hard work, he climbed the ladder till he got to the position of Supervisor of Foremen.

He later resigned and applied to work at the newly established Administrative Staff College of Nigeria, ASCON in Topo, Badagry. While at ASCON, Husitode Moses Dosu got immersed in union activities. This reached a crescendo when he was elected the Secretary of the Non Academic Staff Union, ASCON Chapter. In the hey days of his union activities, he fought for labour rights, welfare packages, good work environment and labour standards as hugely outlined by the International Labour Organization (ILO). Owing to his commitment to labour standards, till date, he is a member of the Board of Trustees of ASCON Pension Scheme. He fought for his fellow workers and stood against injustice. This endeared him to employees at ASCON and when Husitode Moses Dosu finally tendered his resignation in 1997, a lot of ASCON employees were sad that the man who bore their troubles was leaving them.

Despite working and earning money, Husitode Moses Dosu never lost sight of education. He saw education as a cornerstone towards realizing his life-time ambition. It was this realization that made him enroll for his Senior Secondary School Certificate in 1993, at Ikoga Grammar School, Badagry. He read with vigour and the results showed as he passed with credits to his kitty.

He did not rest on his laurels after his secondary school certificate and this prompted him to getting his university degree. Today, he holds a university degree in Political Science from the celebrated University of Ado – Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria.

Husitode Moses Dosu cut his political teeth over three decades ago. He started as a member of the Unity Party of Nigeria in 1978 where he worked assiduously for the election of Chief Lateef Jakande, who won the 1979 elections to emerge as the Governor of Lagos State in the Second Republic.

His fledging political career continued when he joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in 1990 and worked for Mr. Simeon Kiki Whenu to become the Executive Chairman of Badagry in 1990. The transition programme of President Ibrahim Babangida however did not achieve the desired effect as the presidential election in which the late business mogul, Moshood Abiola Kashimawo Abiola, won massively, was annulled.

Husitode Moses Dosu eventually joined the Democratic Party of Nigeria (DPN) in 1996 when the transition programme of President Sanni Abacha began. Here, Husitode Moses Dosu contested the Lagos State House of Assemly election but the death of Abacha truncated the transition programme.

Under President Abdulsalami Abubakar, Husitode Moses Dosu became a staunch member of Alliance for Democracy, a platform on which Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu rose to become the Governor of Lagos State. Husitode Moses Dosu worked energetically for the enthronement of democracy. He was and is still the Principal Coordinator of Bola Ahmed Tinubu Campaign Organization (BATCO).
Today, BATCO is referred to in political circles as The Mandate Group (TMG).

While in the Alliance for Democracy (AD), he was the Party’s Secretary in Badagry Local Government Area between 2000 and 2003. In recognition of his contribution towards the growth of Alliance for Democracy in Badagry, he was crowned with a Gold Award by the BATCO Mandate Group.

In 2004, he became Lagos State’s Organizing Secretary of Alliance for Democracy; a position he held until 2006.
When Alliance for Democracy, AD, metamorphosed into Action Congress in 2006, Husitode instantly became a card-carrying member of Action Congress. It was on this template that he won the Party’s nomination to contest the chairmanship election at the local government level. Expectedly, he won the election with an overwhelming majority as he became the Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government.

A man of the people, humane and charitable; he has endeared himself into the hearts of the people of Badagry. Since assuming office, his emphasis has been to develop the untapped tourism resources in Badagry as well as revamp infrastructural decay. It was in recognition of his commitment to service coupled with his achievements that he was honoured as the ‘Best Performing Local Government Chairman’ in Lagos State by Media Minds Communications, publishers of Excellent magazine, on the 28th of August, 2009.

On the 7th of November, 2009, in far away Abuja, he was honoured by the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as the Best-Performing Council Chairman in Lagos State. The icing on the cake however came on the 9th of February 2010, when Whylan Consulting, in collaboration with Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) 2 Channel 5 named him “The Chairman of the Year 2009.”

Other Merit Awards won in the past included: Award for Revolutionary Leadership by Abe Igi Social Club and another Merit Award by the Ajavo Descendants Union. It will be recalled that Hon. Husitode Moses Dosu wrestled the bastion of power from people who believed might was right.
