The Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Honourable Husitode Moses Dosu, has commenced a flurry of roads’ rehabilitation and reconstruction, particularly trunk B and trunk C roads in Badagry township. The reconstruction became necessary because the roads had been left in squalor for a long time, until they became unmotorable for vehicles and pedestrians.
Among the roads reconstructed are the Awhanjigoh link road, close to Marina in Badagry, Vlekete Road, and the Posukoh road, which leads to Hunto.. According to the Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, the last time Badagry witnessed any visible development was over 19 years. “I want to tell you that the last time Badagry witnessed any sizable development was close to two decades. However, there is a new dawn, new leadership in Badagry. All I want is for all stakeholders to support this Government so that we can go places,” he said.
Also commenting on the roads, the Project Manager of Badagry Local Government, Alhaji Adepoju Abdul-Yekeen said the roads’ reconstruction represented a milestone in the history of Badagry. According to him: “… For a long time, roads in Badagry have been neglected to the point that they became impassable for motorists and even pedestrians,” he said. He cited the Awhanjigoh link road as a case in point.
He noted that the Awhanjigoh link road was constructed by the colonial government and that subsequent administrations had left it to decay. Resultantly, the road became impassable.
In the same development, commenting on the Posukoh road that was just reconstructed, the Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Husitode Moses Dosu remarked that the only time the road got a face-lift was during the administration of Mr. Simeon Kiki Whenu, in 1993. He added that it was not fair for governments to be irresponsible.
Today, both roads wear a new look. Aside from the two, the old Lagos road, although a trunk B road managed by the Lagos State Government, is under construction by the administration of Hon. Husitode Moses Dosu and the present administration has set a timetable for its completion.
Also, a lot of roads have been sand-filled and graded. Among them are: Javie, Maternity Road, Agonkanme link road and a host of others.
Indeed, opening up of roads by the present administration has received thumbs from the people of Badagry, who commended the administration for providing social infrastructures that would help them fight their way out of poverty.
One indigene of Badagry, and a prominent traditional ruler, the Mobee of Badagry, has commended this administration for trying to alleviate the sufferings of the people. He said that of all the administrations he had seen at the Local Government level, present administration stood out.
The Chairman has however promised not to rest on his laurels. He believes he has been called to serve his people. He said he would do this to the utmost of his ability.
