Nov 16th, 2009 | By Salawudeen Ismail | Category: FRONT PAGE STORY, TOURISM DEVELOPMENTFrom all indications, the multi-billion naira Badagry Historical Resort will soon see the light of the day.
This was disclosed by Motherland Group, led by Gary Loster. Motherland Group is the organization responsible for the siting of the Historical Resort in Badagry.
According to Gary Loster, President of Motherland Group, at a courtesy call on the Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Husitode Moses Dosu, “it is a privilege for the sons of Africa in America to come home to help in developing Africa.”
He noted that it was a privilege for the sons of Africa to come back home. Loster revealed that blacks in America were grandsons of former slaves.
Motherland Group is however leading an ‘economic crusade’ back to Africa, specifically, Badagry, by constructing a multi-billion naira Historical Resort.
When completed, the Resort will have an Historical Museum, condominiums, and Jackson Pavilion situated close to the ‘Point of Return’ on Gberefu Sea Beach in Badagry. It will equally have forty buildings.
Loster revealed that the three tiers of government – Federal, State, and Local – have been very cooperative in a bid to making the project reality.
While Motherland Group was at the Chairman of Badagry Local Government’s office and later, the Akran’s palace to give the community update of work-in-progress, the Group, led by Loster, predicted that when completed, the Historical Resort would bring in 8 million tourists to Badagry annually.
Mr. Loster disclosed that an MOU had been signed and work would start on the site soon.
Already, banks have shown huge interest in the project. A bank official who confided in Kondopo Echo revealed that his bank was ready to be a major stakeholder in bankrolling the project.
Bank chiefs present at the presentation of the Virtual Reality of the project by the Group inside the Akran’s palace were: Chris Biosa, Branch Manager, Zenith Bank, Badagry; Muotoh Joyce Akpome, Branch Manager, Oceanic Bank,Badagry; Taiwo Akinwande Seun, Corporate Banking, Oceanic Bank, Badagry; and Nicodemus Taiwo Tonueyi.
Motherland Group noted that the opportunity had presented itself to banks who were ready to be part of history, to fund the project. The Group revealed that in America, there is the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) in which banks undertake to fund a portion of projects by partnering with corporations. The Group opined that this should apply to Badagry too and thus, was looking forward to working with banks.
In the same development, Iseli Tee-Mac of Africa said he was with the Minister for International Affairs, Ojo Madueke to discuss the Historical Resort Project with him as well as the amendment of immigration laws in Nigeria. Tee-Mac revealed that Badagry laid in the Minister’s heart. He added that he was working on visa waiver for nationals of some countries and if it saw the light of the day, 10 million tourists could visit Badagry annually.
In his response, the Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Husitode Moses Dosu reiterated his administration’s desire to make Badagry a tourist haven. He expressed that the Motherland Group’s project represented one of his cardinal visions for Badagry.
The Chairman enthused that he was of the view that Badagry Local Government is the richest in history and tourism, of all Local Governments in Lagos State. Hon. Husitode Moses Dosu pledged to continue to create for investors the conducive atmosphere to develop Badagry.
