Chairman Bags Federal Government Award

The Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Husitode Moses Dosu has again been nominated for an award by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
In an advertorial widely circulated in National Dailies and signed by Senator Sahabi Alhaji Yau, Chairman, Senate Committee on States and Local Government, Hon. Husitode Moses Dosu was one of the five Council Chairmen in Lagos State selected for the Award.
The Award tagged: “2009 Local Government Development Awards” is being organized by the Committee on States and Local Government Administration of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The Award ceremony comes up on Saturday, the 7th of November, at the Ladi Kwali Conference Hall, Sheraton Hotels and Towers, Abuja.
In the statement issued by the Committee on States and Local Government Administration, it was noted that the National Development and Socio-economic transformation was the responsibility of all the constituents of the federating units – the Local Governments inclusive. The statement revealed that the performance of the Local Governments has continued to attract attention and discussion in Public domain.
“As a result, read the statement, “the Senate of the Federal Republic, in its contribution to set proper development agenda, encourage good governance and promote socio-economic development at the grassroot, initiated this maiden ‘Nigerian Local Government Development Award’ programme, a Practical Assessment Survey carried out in collaboration with a consulting firm – SEGNIP Promotion to survey, assess and evaluate programmes and projects delivery at Local Government Areas and appropriately recognize and record achievers and role models.”
The Senate Committee on States and Local Government Administration listed, among other things, the objectives of the programme to include: the creation of opportunity for critical assessment of the programmes and projects being executed by the LGAs across the country; the creation of a platform for benchmarking and peer review and consequently promote healthy competition amongst the Local Government Councils; the provision of opportunity for recognition and rewards to the deserving best performing LGAs; the encouragement of good governance and promotion of transparency and accountability in Public Expenditure Management and Project execution as well as the promotion of concrete socio-economic development at the grassroot.
According to the report by the Senate Committee on States and LGAs Administration, the Committee, in collaboration with SEGNIP Promotion, adopted methodologies which included the usage of survey, field, and technical assessors to evaluate the activities of the Local Governments.
Other criteria used in nominating recipients included: capacity building and development of survey, assessment, template and indicators; assessment tour and project inspection; data collection, documentation, analysis, and assessment; and final validation, review, and nomination by the organizers.
A total of 160 (One hundred and sixty) out of the 774 (Seven hundred and seventy four) Local Government Areas in Nigeria plus the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) was selected as “Award Winner for Excellence” in different categories.
